The city of Nashville has ushered in a new era for public education with the opening of the Martin Professional Development Center. Now – for the first time in the history of Metro Nashville Public Schools – our educators have a state-of-the-art facility dedicated solely to the quality of teaching and instruction in the classroom.
The dream that grew into the Martin Center began in 2006 when the Nashville Alliance for Public Education established a public/private partnership to improve the educational experience of teachers. In just two years, the Alliance secured support from key donors and worked as partners with the school district to turn the vision of a new professional development facility into reality at the site of the historic Eakin Elementary School.
For decades to come, the Martin Professional Development Center will serve thousands of Nashville educators, who in turn will serve hundreds of thousands of students. It’s a ripple effect that knows no boundaries, as the future graduates of Metro Nashville Public Schools step into leadership roles in our city, state and nation. Behind the success of each young person, the Martin Center will have played a central role in ensuring the high-quality public education that enriches the lives of everyone in Nashville.
